I was watching one of the recent sermons of Fr Dimitry Smirnov on his blog. All of us know this:
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
Fr Dimitry mentioned one interesting fact: when you are doing to other what you would have them to do to you, never expect that they will do the same to you. Actually the opposite will happen.
Nevertheless despite betrayals, indifference, ingratitude Christ commandments need to be followed, for He is the Way and Truth and Life. This is why it is called the narrow path. In worldly terms, christian path is the path of a loser. Indeed, being a christian cannot be profitable and cannot make you rich. Merciful? – no way, you need to accumulate wealth not to share it with some losers. Forgiving? – impossible, in our world to forgive means weakness. Poor in heart? – you will tramped upon, proud and arrogant is the only way. Fasting, restraint? – come on! Take from life all you can while you can.
Yet, being united with Christ changes mans soul to such an extent that rich are giving all their money to the poor and not only that, but hundreds of thousands of martyrs for Christ gave their life in exchange for the only thing they cherished – The Fountain of Immortality.
Christ is born!
